However, being loosely categorised as having noses with low bridges and bulbous tips, such “ideal” feature is hard to come by. It largely explains why many Singaporean women and even men today are spending billions of dollars to attain a more defined and proportioned nose.
In the search for non-surgical, nose augmentation procedures, you’ll find that there are two options where you can get a nose job done without going under the knife: nose fillers and nose thread lifts.
Nose Filler
Nose filler is a non-surgical version of rhinoplasty that’s perfect if you want to have your nose altered without invasive surgery. In this procedure, the nose is sculpted by adding volume to it, using fillers which, in most cases, is hyaluronic acid (HA). After the local anaesthetic has set in, the HA fillers will be injected into the bridge and tip of the nose to add a desirable height and projection.
Did You Know? Despite the “acid” in the name, HA is actually safe to use as fillers, with few reported side effects. Furthermore, since it’s a natural substance produced in the body, allergic reactions are generally rare.
This treatment is known to have minimal side effects including mild swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection points. However, these should subside in a day or two. The effects of the treatment, on the other hand, can last for 1-2 years.
Nose Thread Lift
Another non-surgical nose augmentation procedure that’s steadily gaining popularity is the nose thread lift. Also called a lunchtime nose job (because it can be done in under an hour), thread lift addresses ill-defined noses that lack height and projection by inserting threads horizontally into the nose bridge and vertically into the nose tip.
The threads used are called polydioxanone (PDO), which are 100% absorbable and biocompatible with the body. These serve as a scaffolding structure that helps to contour and shape the nose. Results with thread lifts are visible after the session and can last for up to 2 years until the threads completely dissolve.
Which is Better: Nose Filler or Nose Thread Lift?
You may be wondering which of the two is better. But, the truth is, there are certain benefits associated with each treatment; and in terms of addressing specific problems, one procedure may be recommended than the other.
For a higher nose bridge: Most aesthetic clinics in Singapore recommend fillers for anyone with a lower/flat nose bridge as they can give it a desirable volume and shape. But, for anyone who already has some height to their bridge but wants more definition, nose threads may be a better option.
For a contoured nose: Nose threads are more effective than fillers in terms of creating a sharper and more defined nose. Similar to makeup contouring, thread lifting can give your nose a noticeable lift from the bridge down to the tip.
For a sharper/smaller nose tip: Nose threads are also advisable in creating a sharper nose tip as they can significantly lift the nose, thus making the tip look sharper and smaller. It’s contrary to fillers which tend to spread over time, causing the tip to look broader instead.
For a straighter nose: Finally, the unevenness on the nose that’s caused by a bump or dent can be corrected with either threads or fillers. The choice of treatment, however, should boil down to where the bump is and what effect you’re trying to achieve.
